Job Overview
Mechanic at Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT), Romulus, MI. Responsible for repairs and maintenance of trucks and heavy‑duty machinery.
Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, use required PPE, remove hazards, maintain cleanliness.
- Perform repairs on engines, brakes, suspensions, transmissions, and electrical equipment on site trucks and yard machinery.
- Diagnose and repair air systems and electrical issues.
- Inspect, lubricate, and service equipment per company maintenance schedules.
- Change flat tires, make service calls on down trucks, pick up parts from dealerships.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues; make necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements.
- Drive trucks and trailers to test performance.
- Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED; at least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
- Experience as a diesel mechanic and with hydraulic systems preferred.
- Experience with welding and torching preferred.
- Mechanic license or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work independently, self‑motivated and self‑directed.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to follow oral and written communication.
- Ability to climb ladders or steps.
- Ability to endure physical and outdoor work daily.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work cooperatively with employees and the public.
- Work on rotating shifts.
- Comfortable working in environments with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate, and weather changes.
- Pre‑employment background check, physical fitness, and drug screen required.
