Job summary

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) in Pontiac, MI is seeking a Maintenance Technician to repair and maintain machinery and production equipment at the site. You will diagnose issues, perform mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical repairs, and ensure equipment runs reliably while adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities include inspecting machines, replacing worn parts, piping, belt and hose work, welding, and keeping records of repairs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, 18+ years old.
• Minimum of one year of experience as a machine repair technician.
• 2-year trade school preferred.
• Experience with mobile equipment repair preferred.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.

• Change hose assemblies and conveyor belts.

• Perform cleaning duties related to yard and plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair & maintain all plant and yard equipment and machines.
• Torch cutting and welding.

Overview

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. The Maintenance Technician will perform repair and maintenance of machinery and production equipment at the Pontiac, MI location.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), remove hazards as identified, and maintain cleanliness of the site.
• Visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate malfunctions.
• Change hose assemblies and conveyor belts.
• Remove and replace worn or defective parts of the drive mechanism or hydraulic system.
• Locate damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machines and install new pipes.
• Start machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
• Perform cleaning duties related to yard and plant equipment and general housekeeping.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair & maintain all plant and yard equipment and machines.
• Torch cutting and welding.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and must be at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of one year of experience as a machine repair technician.
• 2‑year trade school preferred.
• Experience with mobile equipment repair preferred.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, self‑motivated and self‑directed.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
