Job summary

Plum Boro is seeking a qualified Mechanic to maintain and repair Borough vehicles and equipment. The role requires a valid Class B CDL and PA inspection license, with experience in light trucks and construction equipment.

The mechanic will perform inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safety standards. This role reports to the Director of Public Works with potential winter shift assignments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing light trucks, heavy construction equipment, and other automobiles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform state vehicle inspections and emissions testing within 30 days of expiration.
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment safety inspections regularly.
  • Repair and maintain Borough vehicles and equipment including cars, trucks, and construction and snow removal equipment.
  • Repair or replace parts as necessary.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all Borough vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot problems.
  • Maintain lawn mowers and other grounds equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Mechanic

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Public Works

(Teamsters Local Union 205)

VALID CLASS "B" CDL REQUIRED (Necessary to operate/move GCWR over 26,000 lbs.)

ROLE SUMMARY

Borough mechanics are responsible for maintaining and repairing all Borough vehicles and mechanical equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform state vehicle inspections and necessary emissions testing at required intervals within 30 days of inspection expiration.
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment safety inspections on a regular basis.
  • Repair and maintain Borough vehicles and equipment including cars, trucks, and construction and snow removal equipment.
  • Repair or replace parts as necessary.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all Borough vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot problems.
  • Maintain lawn mowers and other grounds equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other
  • Additional tasks as requested by the Borough Manager and Director of Public works.
  • Required to submit to random drug testing.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience involving the maintenance and repair of light trucks, heavy construction equipment, and other automobiles.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and a valid Class B CDL.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania inspection license.

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
