Job Description

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced School Bus Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in both diesel and gasoline‑powered engines, possess strong troubleshooting abilities, and demonstrate a commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of our school bus fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain in good repair all vehicles owned by the New London Board of Education and our partner districts.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel, gasoline, and propane‑powered school buses.
  • Ensure all work requested in writing by drivers is given attention according to priorities.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Notify Supervisor of all parts, materials, tools, or equipment required for maintenance and/or repairs of all vehicles.
  • Report any mechanical irregularities or deficiencies that cannot be corrected for safe operation of the vehicles owned by the Board of Education or its partner districts to the Supervisor.
  • Fill in as substitute bus driver for regular routes and field trips if needed.
  • Operate shop equipment and assist with inventory, receipt, and issuance of parts and supplies.
  • Frequently lift/move 50 lbs and occasionally 100 lbs.
  • Assist Ohio State Highway Patrol in annual and spot inspections.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor/Administration, including transportation of students during the day, evening, or weekends.
