Job summary

Wampum Hardware Co. in Kittanning, PA is seeking a skilled Mechanic to maintain and repair gasoline and diesel powered equipment. This full-time role focuses on diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance of light and heavy vehicles and machinery in a safety‑conscious shop.

Qualifications

• Mechanic experience and activities in a comprehensive vehicle, light and heavy equipment maintenance and repair program.
• Operating and repairing a wide variety of light and heavy equipment systems including electrical, hydraulic, braking, air conditioning, fuel, ignition, steering, suspension and transmission.
• Minimum Class B CDL with a clean driving record.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Welding experience is a plus.
• Must satisfy the requirements for a possessor of explosives as defined by the BATFE.
• Must be at least 21 years of age as required by the BATFE.
• Must pass drug screening, commercial driver physical and criminal background checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled mechanic duties involving troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel powered automotive, heavy and light construction and other power‑driven equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose, repair and adjust a variety of systems on light and heavy equipment and vehicles, including fuel injection, anti‑lock brake, electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning, fuel management, transmissions, steering and suspension components, clutches and engine sensors.
• Inspect motorized and mechanical equipment; diagnose problems and determine extent of necessary repairs; perform routine preventative maintenance.
• Overhaul, repair and adjust engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, carburetors, generators, distributors and pumps; fit and adjust bearings; install axles and wheels.
• Diagnose, maintain and repair electrical system components such as ignition systems, alternators, high‑voltage power generators, starters and batteries.
• Diagnose and repair front and rear drive axles, drivetrain components, belts, gears and chain drives.
• Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearings, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms and related parts and equipment.
• Weld, fabricate and assemble parts and equipment for automotive and heavy equipment; fabricate and modify tools as needed.
• Maintain vehicle files in accordance with FMCSA standards.
• Maintain and repair shop equipment; clean and maintain assigned work area; dispose of hazardous materials according to established procedures.
