- Inspect marine engines and diagnose issues using approved diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Repair or replace defective components on marine engines and related systems.
- Perform routine engine maintenance, including oil changes and filter replacements.
- Install new marine engines, generators, and associated equipment.
- Complete electrical repairs, including wiring replacement and troubleshooting electrical components.
- Service and repair hydraulic and fuel systems.
- Conduct engine tune‑ups to ensure optimal performance.
- Clean, adjust, and service carburetors and fuel injectors.
- Overhaul engines when necessary to restore full functionality; provide recommendations for upgrades or improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs and services following established procedures.
- Track and inventory parts, tools, and supplies according to company guidelines.
- Request necessary parts and materials using approved processes.
- Communicate with operational teams regarding technical issues and recommended repair methods.
- Ensure all workshop operations comply with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Perform regular inspections on marine vessels and onboard systems.
- Troubleshoot, test, and repair onboard electrical systems.
- Maintain detailed service and repair documentation.
- Follow manufacturer guidelines for all maintenance and repair activities.
- Test and repair steering, propulsion, and related mechanical systems.
- Keep the workshop clean, organized, and safe.
- Stay current with evolving marine technologies, tools, and repair techniques.
- Assist fellow mechanics and technicians with complex repairs or troubleshooting.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work area at all times.
- Adhere to all applicable safety standards and regulations.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of engines, propulsion systems, and onboard mechanical components

Certification Preferred:
Years of Experience:Minimum 2-5 years in marine, diesel, or heavy-equipment repair; shipyard experience strongly preferred.
Other:Valid State ID or Driver’s License
Vocational/Technical school training or apprenticeship preferred in marine mechanics, diesel technology, or a related mechanical field preferred.
Ability to meet all U.S. Coast Guard regulatory requirements, including reading and writing in English
Physical Requirements
- Able to bend, stoop and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to complete gripping, pinching and/or manipulation ≥ 85 pounds.
- Able to frequently lift, hold and carry equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
Working Conditions/Environment
- Must be physically able to transit all work environments for vessel and facility docks, for example, but not limited to (i.e., lifting, climbing, confined spaces, maneuver hazardous areas)
- Exposure to varied extreme weather conditions
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver equipment or materials as needed.
- Must be able to support operational needs outside of standard business hours as required. This may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call‑outs.
- Must be available for on-call assignments, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as operational needs arise.
- Must be able to respond within required timeframes when on call and adjust schedules as needed to support urgent or unplanned transportation needs, including traveling to other facilities.
