Location and Pay
Location: Baton Rouge, LA (Geismar)
Pay Range: $20.43–$30.76 per hour
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractors and trailers in compliance with company and DOT standards.
- Assist other technicians with tractor and trailer repairs.
- Conduct DOT inspections.
- Inspect and repair brakes.
- Service air systems and brakes.
- Perform entry‑level diagnostics and repairs for all systems of assigned equipment (e.g., suspension, drivetrain, HVAC, electrical, damage repair, valve repair, etc.).
- Learn troubleshooting procedures and failure analysis of all components.
- Lift and install heavy components of CMVs such as starters, clutches, brake drums, etc., depending on equipment assignment.
- Ensure all parts and labor are accurately charged to the proper repair order.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards.
- Weld and perform light fabrication work.
- Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration before being deemed roadworthy.
- Practice safe work habits as outlined by the company and local authorities.
- Own and maintain personal tools needed for maintenance and repairs not supplied by the company.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
- Possess necessary tooling: sockets/wrenches 1.25” and lower; air tools 1/2” drive and lower; volt meter/test light; acceptable tool chest for personal tools.
Skills Required
- Read, write, and speak English.
- Basic troubleshooting and repair skills for electrical, suspension, trailer tank repairs, and HVAC.
- Ability to work any schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Utilize personal and laptop computers.
- Communicate effectively with teammates and leadership, respond to official questions, and make legible entries on reports and records.
- Effective time management.
- Maintain a sense of urgency and demonstrate safe operating procedures.
- Professional and courteous interpersonal skills.
- Experience moving trailers in and out of shop is a plus.
Physical Demands
- Frequently lift, push, and/or pull weights more than 50 pounds; occasionally lift, push, and/or pull weights more than 100 pounds.
