General Purpose

Performs semi-skilled, skilled and administrative work in the maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the City. Also performs the essential duties and responsibilities of the General Maintenance, Grade 4 classification as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience
Necessary Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators, and welding' price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment; working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment including appropriate computer skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures; ability to maintain effective cost containment and purchasing procedures; ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion
  • Ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to read and interpret construction plans; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments and the public
  • Valid State's Driver's license and CDL certification
  • State of Michigan certification as master mechanic or other combination of State of Michigan mechanic certifications
Salary

$27.31 - $33.20 per hour depending on qualifications.
