Job summary

State of North Carolina - Agriculture & Consumer Services is seeking a Meat & Poultry Inspector I to perform inspections at processing establishments in New Hanover County. Role includes ante-mortem/post-mortem checks, humane handling, and HACCP verification.

The inspector ensures compliance with state and federal meat safety laws, collects samples, and documents findings in a web-based system. Onsite work and periodic training are required for certification and advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or GED with four years of inspection/production/management experience.
• Meat and Poultry Inspection Training completion required.
• Strong written and oral communication in English; ability to document findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ante-mortem and post-m mortem inspections in assigned plants.
• Observe humane handling and evaluate sanitation and HACCP implementation.
• Collect and submit samples for microbiological analysis and verify product labels.
