Job summary

Webasto Group in Plymouth-Detroit, MI seeks an engineering intern to support manufacturing engineering and production activities. You will read drawings, document results with Excel/Word, and help design and refine production processes and equipment with lean practices.

Ideal candidates are industrial engineering students who are eager to learn, adaptable, and capable of working in a manufacturing environment with a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Document experiment results and organize data using Excel and Word.
• Assist in designing, developing, and refining production processes and equipment.
• Apply lean manufacturing techniques to improve processes.
• Plan time studies and line balancing, and update standard work instructions.
• Support concurrent engineering efforts and provide weekly task summaries.

You can look forward to these exciting tasks

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Ability to utilize MS Excel and Word to document experiment results and organize/analyze data.
• Strong verbal/written communications skills and the ability to work with a team.
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from a floor or table position to chest high using a proper lifting technique.
• Assist the Manufacturing Engineering and Production departments in designing, developing, and refining production processes and equipment for the company's products and accessories.
• Support daily engineering tasks by designing, developing, and maintaining robust, cost-efficient manufacturing equipment and processes aligned with lean manufacturing practices.
• Understand and meet all assigned process and test requirements, including the capabilities of processes and equipment.
• Perform root cause and failure analysis as needed.
• Apply lean manufacturing techniques to improve processes.
• Plan and execute time studies and line balancing.
• Develop and update standard manufacturing work instructions.
• Analyze work centers and implement safety and process improvements.
• Identify sources of variation and assess the impact of tolerance stack-ups in assemblies using Six Sigma strategies.
• Develop and conduct experiments as directed by engineering.
• Participate in concurrent engineering efforts and critical design reviews to minimize product development costs and enhance manufacturability.
• Provide engineers with weekly summary reports detailing daily tasks.
• Design and improve tools, fixtures, jigs, and assembly aids for the fabrication of company products.
• Analyze work centers and implement safety and process improvements.
