Job summary

Burbankhealthcare is seeking an MDS Coordinator to manage the MDS process for residents in accordance with OBRA and PPS guidelines. You will ensure accurate documentation, admission assessments, and compliance with Medicare criteria, while supporting quality nursing care and a safe environment.

Ideal candidates hold a California RN license with 1–2 years of MDS experience or a completed MDS course. BLS/CPR is required, and prior SNF experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong mathematical skills for variance analysis and sampling.

Responsibilities

• Complete and ensure accuracy of the MDS process for all residents.
• Maintain knowledge of Medicare criteria and inform nursing staff of changes.
• Monitor Case Mix Index (CMI) for Medicaid reimbursement risk.
• Facilitate problem-solving for complex admissions.
• Monitor Medicare assessment schedules and ensure timely documentation.
• Comply with attendance policy and reliability expectations.

Job description

We are looking for an MDS Coordinator to join our team! The MDS Coordinator completes MDS for all residents according to OBRA and PPS guidelines. Assists in providing a clean, safe, happy and healthy environment for residents by performing the duties as described below. The goal is to promote the patient’s well-being by providing high quality nursing care.

• Valid and current California RN License
• 1-2 years MDS experience or MDS completed course
• BLS or CPR (required)
• 1-2 years experience in MDS coordinator role or related experience required
• Exceptional mathematical skills and ability to apply them to tasks such as analysis of variance and sampling theory
• Deep medical terminology knowledge
• Experience in a clinical and healthcare setting preferred
• Excellent leadership skills
• Demonstrable knowledge of state and federal regulations
• Previous experience in a SNF or similar job setting would be preferred
• Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
• Excellent knowledge of emergency care.
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and willingness to follow them at all times
• A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Primary MDS Coordinator Responsibilities

• Participate in the admission process of prospective residents in terms of their nursing needs and appropriate placement
• Determine potential Resource Utilization Groups (RUGs) and expense associated with a potential admission
• Review all applications for admission, followed by on-site or phone assessment and communicate results of assessment to the Admissions Coordinator
• Complete and assure the accuracy of the MDS process for all residents
• Maintain current working knowledge of Medicare criteria, serving as a resource for nursing staff and communicate changes in regulations
• Monitor Case Mix Index (CMI) scores, looking for potential risks and/or changes that may affect Medicaid reimbursement
• Facilitate problem-solving for complicated admissions
• Monitor Medicare assessment schedules and nursing documentation to ensure accuracy and timely submission
• Complies with the facility’s attendance policy requiring regular, reliable, and punctual attendance

Other Responsibilities

• Adjust and administer patient’s medication and provide treatments according to physician’s orders
• Ensures timely response to call lights

• Identifies/assesses emergency medical situations and provides appropriate interventions as indicated

PAY SCALE: $50 - $57 / Hour

Depending on a number of factors, including, but not limited to location, regularly scheduled work shift, knowledge, skills, experience, and expertise.
