Job Summary

The overall purpose of the MDS Coordinator position is to ensure appropriate reimbursement of Medicare and/or Medicaid Patients through the Patient Assessment Instrument (RAI) process. Assists in managing quality patient care in accordance with federal and state standards, as directed by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.

Qualifications
  • A current, valid Texas nursing license (RN, LVN) is required.
  • At least 2 years of LTC experience preferred.
  • Must have an Acknowledgement of Completion Certificate through the HHSC RUG Online Training for Nursing Facilities.
  • Must complete the AANAC RAI Certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Effective communication, delegation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret regulations, journals, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in report writing and presenting information.
Essential Functions
  • Maintain compliance with all Medicaid and Medicare rules and regulations.
  • Participate in pre-admission assessments to determine medical necessity.
  • Attend daily standup meetings.
  • Coordinate weekly reimbursement meetings with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Audit clinical records and train staff on documentation guidelines.
  • Obtain and update Medicare diagnosis and physician certifications.
  • Complete all required MDS assessments timely.
  • Monitor patient condition reports for changes.
  • Prepare for Medicaid audits.
  • Track patient benefits and census for billing accuracy.
  • Meet budgeted rate expectations.
  • Enforce abuse prevention policies and support patient safety.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
