Job summary

CMI, now part of the Dexterra Group, seeks an MD 1st Class Engineer to operate and maintain the 24/7 steam, chilled water, and auxiliary systems at the Gaithersburg, MD site. The role emphasizes safe operation, preventative maintenance, and compliance with plant procedures.

The position requires an MD-DLLR Grade 1 license, a Universal CFC license, and at least two years of independent hands-on experience with similar equipment. Strong safety and PPE discipline are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have an MD-DLLR Grade 1 License (1st Class Stationary Engineer).
• At least 2 years of independent operation as a first-class stationary engineer on similar-sized equipment.
• Must have a current Universal CFC License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain correct steam pressure and water levels in steam generators.
• Inspect feed water controls and gauges for regulatory compliance.
• Ensure proper combustion by maintaining oxygen levels in exit gases.
• Perform chemical tests and adjust chemical dosing and blow down rates.
• Operate steam, electrical generation, and chilled water production equipment.
• Maintain air pressure via air compressors and dryers.
• Monitor chillers and temperature for condenser, evaporator, and free cooling.
• Ensure safe operation of all equipment and wear required PPE.
• Troubleshoot/repair/maintain steam and chilled water generation systems.
• Measure, cut, thread pipe and clean water/steam sides; troubleshoot controls.
• Repack valves, repair pumps, and perform pump maintenance.

Job Description

The MD 1st Class Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all equipment at CMI's 24/7 customer site in Gaithersburg, MD.

Key Job Functions

• Maintain the correct steam pressure and water level in the steam generators
• Inspect feed water regulatory controls and gauges
• Ensure proper combustion by maintaining the required O2 levels in the exit gases
• Maintain an established chemical program by performing tests, adding the required chemicals to each system, and adjusting system blow down rates, etc.
• Operate all auxiliary equipment associated with steam generation, and electrical generation, and chilled water production
• Maintain correct air pressure by proper adjustments to the air compressors and dryers
• Maintain site Chilled Water temperature to the campus
• Operate and monitor the chillers for inlet/outlet temperatures for the condenser and evaporator, and the free cooling system
• Insure the safe operation of all equipment
• Wear proper PPE and follow all required protocols
• Troubleshoot/repair/perform preventative maintenance of all equipment that provides steam, chilled water and compressed air found in the Steam and Chilled Water Generation Plant
• Measure, cut and thread pipe, and clean the water and fire sides of the steam generators
• Troubleshoot/repair control issues associated with direct digital, pneumatic and electric controls
• Repack valves, repair pumps and perform pump maintenance
• Perform related housekeeping duties as required and assigned

Qualifications

• Must have a current Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (MD-DLLR) Grade 1 License (1st Class Stationary Engineer)
• Demonstrate at least 2 years of independent operation as a first-class stationary engineer on similar-sized equipment.
• Must have a current Universal CFC License
