UT Health San Antonio MCC is seeking a Clinical Registered Nurse - Intermediate to provide direct patient nursing care at the Mays Cancer Center. This role supports physicians, coordinates clinic flow, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced oncology setting.

Qualified candidates have an Associate's degree in nursing, Active TX RN licensure, and BLS/CPR certification, with at least five years of professional nursing experience.

Job description

The MCC Clinical Registered Nurse - Intermediate provides direct nursing care to patients at the Mays Cancer Center. Demonstrates independence when preparing equipment and aiding physicians during the treatment and examination of patients. Works under the limited supervision of the department leadership.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates advanced skills in the delivery of physical examinations of patients, performing complex medical testing and providing interpretations of results, consulting with physicians and implementing treatment plan; administers medications and injections as needed.
• Ensures the clinic flow runs smoothly and works closely with the assigned scheduler to ensure referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests, etc. are scheduled accordingly.
• Triages patient calls and works closely with call center team members.
• Assists and arranges for hospital admissions as needed.
• Follows-up on diagnostic tests, labs and ensures they are reported to the medical provider.
• Refers patients as needed to appropriate specialist, consults and collaborates with other members of the health care team, provides daily wound care as needed, schedules follow up appointments, weekly check appointments, and procedure appointments.
• Educates patients and family members on the therapy process.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

• Demonstrates analytical thinking – this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.

• Required certifications must remain current and valid.
• Ability to serve as a preceptor and a mentor by fostering a teaching environment. Position eligible for preceptor premium pay with completion of preceptor education and leader approval.

EDUCATION

Associate's degree in nursing required.

EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of professional nursing experience is required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Active BLS/CPR required.

TX RN licensure required.
