Overview

The MBCx Energy Analyst is responsible for monitoring based commissioning of building systems using fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) software. This role identifies operational faults in HVAC and building automation systems, diagnoses root causes using trend and historian data, and serves as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, communicating findings and corrective actions on an ongoing basis. The Analyst builds and maintains strong working relationships with facility and engineering staff at healthcare and education clients, ensuring issues are understood, prioritized, and resolved through continuous monitoring and data driven diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Review flagged faults and rules output to identify operational issues affecting energy consumption, equipment performance, and comfort.
  • Analyze trend data, historian data, and point level detail to diagnose root causes of mechanical, control, and sequence related faults.
  • Investigate HVAC system performance including chillers, air handling units, VAV systems, and central plant equipment.
  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned clients, building trust through consistent, clear, and timely communication.
  • Conduct regular client meetings or calls to review open issues, explain root causes in accessible terms, and align on corrective priorities.
  • Develop clear, actionable recommendations for correcting identified faults and present them to clients along with expected energy and reliability impact.
  • Track fault resolution status and proactively follow up with clients and field technicians to confirm corrective action is completed.
  • Manage client expectations around issue timelines, escalating unresolved or high impact faults internally and with the client as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver periodic findings reports and dashboards summarizing discovered issues, savings opportunities, and resolution status for client stakeholders.
  • Support rule customization and refinement within the FDD platform to improve fault detection accuracy for specific building types and equipment.
  • Quantify and document energy and cost savings resulting from fault correction, and communicate results back to the client to reinforce program value.
  • Collaborate with MBCx engineers and team leadership on complex diagnostic cases and client escalations.
  • Maintain organized documentation of building systems, sequences of operation, and equipment inventories for assigned client portfolio.
  • Support onboarding of new buildings or systems into the MBCx monitoring platform, including introducing the process and expectations to new client contacts.
  • Uphold the company's owner advocacy philosophy, mission, and core values.
