Job summary

The University of Hawaii at Manoa, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience, seeks an experienced administrator to lead CTAHR Extension, Research, and Instructional programs in Maui County. This role manages and maintains two CTAHR Cooperative Extension offices (Moloka`i and Kahului) and four Research stations across Maui County.

Reporting to the Dean, the incumbent coordinates county programs with department chairs, develops objectives and plans, oversees budgets and staffing, and

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for and coordinates all CTAHR research, extension, and instruction activities for Maui County.
• In conjunction with department chairpersons, develops objectives, priorities, and plans for CTAHR research, extension, and instruction programs with emphasis upon the needs of the county.
• Participates with CTAHR department chairpersons and cabinet administrators in the development of statewide plans for the development of agricultural industries, commodities, and natural and human resources to assure coordination between county and State plans.
• Reviews and recommends funding through departments for annual county plans of work and projects prepared by faculty members in the county based on county plans and priorities.
• Monitors and evaluates county programs and prepares reports in accordance with Federal, State, University, and CTAHR regulations and requirements.
• Organizes for CTAHR county staff participation in county projects and community development and improvement activities.
• Exercises academic and professional leadership in planning and carrying out program activities based on professional respect and trust and principles of academic responsibility and collegiality.
• Exercises independent judgement in handling a wide variety of problems involving a highly diverse population of clientele groups and individuals.
• Responsible for the operations and maintenance of research stations and extension offices. Including repairs and maintenance of facilities and equipment and recommends CIP projects as necessary.
• Collaborates with the CTAHR Cabinet and other county administrators to assure uniform, statewide policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
• Hires, supervises, and evaluates county staff.
• Responsible for custody, allocation and maintenance of budgets, space, equipment, and facilities for all research, extension, and instruction activities in the county.
• Assesses all county-based faculty in the promotion and tenure process at the direction of the dean.
• Administers applicable fiscal and personnel policies and procedures.
• Represents the College in the county and represents county interests in dealings with other units in the College. Represents county interests in the planning and program activities of the College.
• Officially represent the College in dealings with the county government, Federal, and State agencies (including regulatory agencies) located in the county, various advisory groups, industry and community organizations and leaders, and the general public.
• Maintains an effective working relation with these organizations and individuals.
• Serves as a public service leader in the community and interacts with other leadership segments in the county.
• Secures support from the academic departments and other College units in support of county programs and projects.
• Secures resources to support county-based programs and projects form extramural sources.
• Markets CTAHR programs and activities.
• Conducts special projects of importance to the College. These projects may include scholarly work in research, instruction, or outreach.
• Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Dean.
