Job summary

University of New Mexico is seeking a Mattox/Annex Lab Technician to support studio operations on the Main Campus in Albuquerque, NM. The role involves helping manage safety, maintenance, and equipment under the Lab manager’s oversight.

The position is student employment with a work-study option. Evening and weekend shifts may be required as part of studio turnover and project needs.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UNM and enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) for fall and spring semesters.
• If Work Study, must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe practices for all users in the Mattox/Annex studios.
• Perform shop maintenance tasks such as cleaning, sweeping, and restocking supplies.
• Assist Lab manager with equipment maintenance.
• Handle other shop-related tasks as assigned by lab manager.

Position Summary

The Mattox / Annex studio tech responsibilities are as follows;

• While working ensuring safe practices are being followed by all users
• Perform shop maintenance tasks such as emptying sawdust bins, cleaning sinks, vacuuming shops, sweeping, refilling paper towel dispensers and other tasks as needed, painting, assisting with studio turn overs.
• Assisting Lab manager with equipment maintenance.
• Other shop related tasks as assigned by lab manager

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications

• Available to work weekends
• Work study approved
• Are a current or past sculpture, ceramics, print making, A&E Grad student
• Have experience working in a metal, wood, ceramics, print making or fabrication shops
• Possess a strong understanding of safe practices working in multiple studio types and with divers equipment
