Matron - Neonatal Services

We are pleased to advertise a permanent position for a Matron in Neonatal Services at UHMBT. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Neonatal Nurse to take on a senior leadership role, supporting the Heads of Midwifery and the Director of Midwifery to uphold high standards of quality care and patient experience within the Maternity and Neonatal portfolio.

As a senior member of the nursing and midwifery team, you will have the opportunity to shape services to ensure they are responsive and patient-focused.

The role requires demonstrating expert clinical knowledge and high standards, along with skills to inspire, innovate, support, and challenge our team to deliver exceptional service for families. The position will support the Neonatal service across UHMBT.

Main duties of the job

As the successful candidate, you will:

  1. Provide visible leadership and clear direction to staff, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care aligned with the organisation's strategic vision.
  2. Be accountable for the standard of Neonatal care and the clinical environment within your areas of responsibility. Collaborate with clinical teams to maintain high standards of care, infection prevention, and patients' privacy and dignity.
  3. Manage Ward/Unit Managers within your area to support a culture of safety, financial balance, and efficiency.
  4. Support the achievement of targets and KPIs to improve access to Neonatal services and enhance patient care quality.
  5. Participate in the relevant senior manager on-call rota.
  6. Deputise for the Head of Midwifery when required on neonatal care matters within UHMBT and the Lancashire and South Cumbria Neonatal Network.

Education & Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse/Sick Children's Nurse
  • Registered with the NMC or appropriate regulatory body
  • Specialist qualification in Neonatal care
  • Management or Leadership qualification or willingness to undertake one
Experience
  • Extensive post-registration experience, including management and leadership roles
  • Experience managing budgets and financial control
  • Experience handling incidents, complaints, and clinical risks
