Middle School (7TH GRADE) Mathematics Teacher

Position Summary

The Middle School (7th Grade) Mathematics Teacher provides standards-aligned, engaging instruction that develops students' mathematical understanding, problem-solving ability, confidence, and readiness for future coursework. The teacher creates an inclusive, well-managed learning environment; uses assessment data to plan instruction and intervention; collaborates with colleagues and families; and supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of middle school students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver rigorous instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards for Mathematics and the District curriculum.
  • Teach mathematical concepts and processes using a variety of evidence-based strategies, including modeling, problem solving, discourse, hands-on learning, and appropriate instructional technology.
  • Develop daily and long-range lesson plans with clear learning targets, differentiated supports, and meaningful opportunities for students to demonstrate understanding.
  • Administer and analyze formative, common, and summative assessments; use results to adjust instruction, provide feedback, and identify students needing enrichment, intervention, or additional support.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, assessment information, and required documentation in accordance with District procedures and timelines.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, structured classroom that promotes positive behavior, student engagement, and productive collaboration.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs, Section 504 plans, English learner needs, and other individualized learning needs, in collaboration with appropriate staff.
  • Participate in grade-level, departmental, professional learning community, MTSS, and other collaborative teams to improve student outcomes and ensure instructional consistency.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administrators regarding academic progress, expectations, concerns, and available supports.
  • Supervise students as assigned during the school day and participate in school activities, conferences, professional development, and other duties consistent with the teaching assignment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel, and District information and comply with all Board policies, administrative procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent that are consistent with the position.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; master's degree preferred.
  • Valid Indiana teaching license with appropriate middle school mathematics licensure or eligibility for required licensure.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development, effective mathematics instruction, assessment practices, and classroom management.
  • Ability to use technology and instructional resources to support learning, communicate with families, and manage required records.
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet all background-check, child-protection, and employment requirements established by law and Board policy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards for Mathematics and middle school instructional practices.
  • Ability to explain mathematical reasoning clearly and help students connect concepts, procedures, and real-world applications.
  • Ability to interpret student data and use it to provide timely, targeted instruction and intervention.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students while maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse student population, families, and staff.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties require regular attendance; prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and listening; use of a computer and standard classroom equipment; and the ability to supervise and move throughout instructional and school environments. The work environment is a typical school setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, families, and visitors.
