Job summary

SF Tensor in San Francisco is hiring a Member of Mathematical Staff to own the proof engine and advance formal methods for frontier models.

You will collaborate with engineers to build formal hardware models, formalize numeric stability, and drive proofs from theory into scalable production tools. This role offers relocation assistance and a path to shape the math behind AI breakthroughs.

Qualifications

• PhD in Math is strongly recommended, proven work matters.
• Good judgement on when a full proof is worth it and when a cheaper guarantee suffices.
• Experience with SMT, interactive proofs, and custom decision procedures.
• Ability to set and own an open-ended research agenda.
• Ability to explain a proof strategy to engineers and push back on shortcuts.

Responsibilities

• Own the proof engine end-to-end, proving kernels across edge cases.
• Collaborate with engineering to build formal models of new hardware.
• Formalize numerical stability and convergence across architectures.
• Research how to predict training divergence during runs.
• Collaborate on post-training proofs and program verification.
• Formalize low-precision computation and its numerical stability.
• Collaborate on proving sandboxes are safe.
