Dinwiddie County Public Schools’ Dinwiddie Middle School is seeking a Math Tutor (Secondary) to deliver direct math services to students identified as needing academic support. Employment Terms: 191 days, 7 hours a day (2026-2027 school year only)
Deliver direct math services to secondary students identified as needing academic support. The tutor will be responsible for providing exceptional instruction, student mentorship, and subject matter expertise in mathematics, as well as monitoring and making instructional adjustments based on student data. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Building Principal.
Respond to student questions in a positive, supportive manner, giving explanations that are as detailed as possible.
Guide students through content and/or problem-solving processes without directly answering questions for them.
Remain vigilant for signs that a student is asking for help on assessment (quizzes and tests) questions; set clear expectations with students that tutors cannot confirm answers, but can help clarify prompt requirements, provide parallel problems, or guide students back to course content.
Redirect students to their classroom teacher (when applicable) for questions relating to specific course logistics or grades.
Seek guidance by escalating content questions and sharing session logs/transcripts for evaluation and feedback.
Perform other duties as assigned.
General knowledge of the practices, methods, and techniques used in classroom teaching and secondary mathematics instruction.
General knowledge of school programs, curriculum standards, and district policies.
Skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment, personal computers, hardware, peripherals, and relevant software packages.
Ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile student progress reports.
Ability to multitask between multiple students and math courses simultaneously.
Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to type and perform data entry work accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, students, and parents.
A minimum of an Associate's Degree or 2 years equivalent of college-level coursework (48 credit hours) required.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience working in secondary education preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.
Work regularly requires speaking or hearing; frequently requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle , or feel, and repetitive mo tions; occasionally requires sitting, reaching with hands and arms, and lifting.
Work requires close vision, distance vision, color perception, and peripheral vision.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickl y.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through o ral communications and /or to make fine distinctions in sound.
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection invol ving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather cond itions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Work is general ly in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light t raffic).
Position may require the operation of division-owned/leased motor vehicles; therefore, the incumbent’s driving record will be subject to periodic review and must be acceptable in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board's policy m anual.
