Summary

Teaches one or more subjects to students in public secondary school by performing the following duties. Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
  2. Prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state, district, and school.
  3. Assigns lessons and corrects homework.
  4. Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
  5. Keeps attendance records.
  6. Maintains discipline in classroom.
  7. Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
  8. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  9. May perform related duties such as sponsoring activities or student organizations, providing adult supervision for co-curricular events, serving on committees, and collaborating with colleagues to improve instruction and school climate.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and completion of a fifth-year college or university teaching credential program.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents; respond effectively to inquiries or complaints; write lesson plans, speeches, and articles; and make effective presentations.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions and handle variables.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Valid California Secondary credential, English Learner Authorization, and California Driver's License.

Other Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; ability to create a positive classroom environment; communicate effectively; organize activities; maintain records; respond to parents and keep them informed.

Physical Demands
