Job description

Masters Academy International(MAI) is New England’s only school that combines top-tier sports and academics to prepare future leaders, excelling in athletics, academics, and life. At MAI, academics aren’t placed between training sessions; they are a vital part of developing an elite performer. We’ve created a curriculum that respects the demands of our athletes without sacrificing intellectual rigor. Students are challenged through engaging coursework, grounded in inquiry, which encourages healthy disagreement and debate and emphasizes quality over quantity.

MAI’s academic program aims to strike a balance between well-being and learning for our student-athletes, helping them develop not only knowledge but also the skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving world. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their education and nurture the critical and creative thinking skills necessary to understand and solve global challenges. As a result, our students graduate from MAI as critical thinkers, effective communicators, and confident learners, prepared to excel in any field.

The Opportunity

Math teachers at Masters Academy ensure that students function as mathematicians every day, developing an appreciation for mathematics as both a practical tool and a powerful way of thinking. Students explore how math is used by professionals across fields and in everyday life, discovering its relevance beyond the classroom. Each week, students attempt solutions, pose questions, receive feedback, iterate, and reflect on errors to gradually master mathematical concepts while building critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

Our discussion- and problem-focused approach to mathematics emphasizes collaboration and communication, encouraging students to take active ownership of their learning and develop deep conceptual understanding. You'll cultivate a classroom culture where students share their work, even when incomplete or in progress, engaging in rich discussion and debate about problem-solving strategies and approaches. Teachers guide discussions during class sessions and small group tutorials, supporting students as they develop confidence in explaining their thinking, persevere through difficult problems, and discover how mathematics serves as a practical and powerful tool for making sense of the world around them
