Job summary

Somerville Public Schools is seeking a Math/Science Teacher for a small therapeutic alternative school within the district. This role combines direct instruction in mathematics and science with service as a Teacher/Counselor—a caseload advisor who builds a lasting relationship with a small group of students from referral through graduation.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts DESE licensure in Mathematics (5-12) and/or Science (5-12).
• DESE SEI endorsement required or willingness to obtain.
• Bilingual educator preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned math and/or science instruction to middle and high school students.
• Adapt curriculum, pacing, and materials for students with IEPs in coordination with special education staff.
• Track student progress and grades, linking classroom learning to post-secondary pathways.
• Serve as the primary Teacher/Counselor for an assigned caseload of counselees.
• Lead a daily morning check-in and a counseling group meeting three times per week.
