Job summary

Equus is seeking an instructor to deliver GED and CASAS reading and math instruction, plus high school diploma coursework, in a youth-focused program in San Francisco. You will facilitate 1:1 and small group sessions, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records to support student success.

You will develop engaging, competency-based lesson plans, utilize tech-enabled instruction, and ensure accommodations meet program requirements while fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or proven teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of youth development best practices.
  • Understanding of youth–adult partnerships.
  • Creativity in training design and approach.
  • Ability to present complex information to mixed skill sets.

  • Strong writing, speaking, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in GED and CASAS reading and math, plus high school diploma coursework.
  • Facilitate 1:1 and small group sessions to meet learning needs.
  • Monitor student progress and document CASAS/GED gains.
  • Maintain attendance records and weekly reports.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with objectives and competency-based instruction.
  • Use computer-assisted instruction and cooperative learning effectively.
  • Deliver accommodations in compliance with program requirements.
  • Evaluate progress and document case notes where appropriate.
  • Participate in staff meetings and complete required trainings.
  • Model professional behavior and ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Support student retention and provide excellent customer service.

Job Description
  • Provide professional-level instruction in GED and CASAS reading and math preparation, as well as high school diploma coursework.
  • Facilitate 1:1 and small group sessions to meet individual learning needs.
  • Monitor and support student progress, including math gains and CASAS/GED achievements.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and complete weekly reports as required.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans aligned with course objectives and competency-based instruction.
  • Utilize computer-assisted instruction and cooperative learning techniques effectively.
  • Deliver necessary accommodations to students in compliance with program requirements.
  • Evaluate and document student progress, including case notes in CIS where appropriate.
  • Actively participate in departmental and all-staff meetings.
  • Complete required staff training in a timely manner.
  • Model, mentor, and monitor appropriate workplace behavior.
  • Ensure a clean and safe learning environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students and assist with retention efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in education or related field or proven experience as an instructor
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in youth development
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of effective youth‑adult partnerships
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in training design and approach
  • Ability to present complex information to a team with varied skill sets
  • Ability to lead and facilitate collaborative relationships with diverse groups
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and analytical skills
  • Strong self‑motivation: ability to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities
  • Experience in curriculum development, implementation, and instructionProficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Business Suite preferred
