RFCUNY is seeking a part-time instructional coach for Bridges to Academic Success at The Graduate Center. The role focuses on content development in math and literacy with ELL supports, coaching teachers, and delivering professional learning for educators.

Travel across New York State is expected 3–4 times per month. You will collaborate to analyze needs assessments, design scaffolds, and lead sessions both online and in person, contributing to teacher growth and student language and math

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience teaching literacy.
  • 3+ years experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Experience coaching teachers and leading professional learning sessions.
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development and curricula.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and backwards design.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently on PD planning.
  • Willingness to give/receive feedback and revise materials.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coach teachers and lead professional learning seminars; develop curricula with suitable scaffolds.
  • Lead online and in-person PD for teachers related to Bridges resources and planning.
  • Collaborate with team to analyze needs assessments; conduct site visits with stakeholders.
  • Manage a cohort of teachers and relationships across districts and schools; perform outreach as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Bridges supports schools, teachers, and students by helping to accelerate language, literacy, and content-area learning through special school programming, curricula, and professional development for educators.We are a small team of instructional coaches, professional developers, curriculum developers, and researchers based at The Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY). Our core New York State programs are grant-funded by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Bridges trains teachers and administrators to support Students with Interrupted and Limited Schooling (SIFE) and Newcomers on implementation of Bridges curricular materials and resources.About the Role : We are looking for a part-time instructional coach with experience on content development and with a math, language and literacy background who also has experience teaching English learners. The students who use our materials are new to the United States, new to English, and have in many cases experienced an interruption in their schooling. We are also expanding our resources to service long-term ELLs so are looking for an experienced math educator who has also served this population of students.Specific Roles and Responsibilities:The candidate will have experience coaching teachers and/or leading professional learning seminars, and developing curricula or content with appropriate scaffolds. The coach will lead online and in person professional learning for Math teachers related to our math materials and related planning and instructional materials as well as co-teaching strategiesThe coach will partner with team members to analyze needs assessments and conduct outreach and site visits with appropriate teacher or district stakeholders to support implementation of Bridges resources and related menu of services.This role will require considerable project management and leadership experience as a team leader or other position, depending on experience level, to manage a cohort of teachers and relationships across districts and schools.Other duties as assigned.The position requires both individual and collaborative team work, both on site with teachers and remotely with the rest of the Bridges team, with the goal of supporting teachers to accelerate students in language, literacy, and math.Required QualificationsNew York State residency, with travel in and around New York State 3-4 times per month;3+ years experience teaching literacy;3+ years experience working with and teaching English Language Learners and preferably SIFE or newcomers and LTELs;Experience coaching teachers;Experience designing and facilitating professional development sessions for teachers;Interest in and willingness to become familiar with our instructional methods to both coach and participate in the design of professional development sessions;Knowledge and experience with curriculum development and design, including backwards design;Ability to work collaboratively and independently to plan and facilitate professional development in both face-to-face and online sessions;Willingness to give and receive feedback on work and to revise in response to feedback;Ability to adapt to different school contexts;Experience facilitating adult learning;Facility with technology and online content dissemination;Ability to proactively manage time and deadlines across multiple workstreams; plan out milestones, and meet deliverable timelines independently;Ability to collaborate across the team in multiple cross-functional areas;Bachelor's degree required.Preferred QualificationsExperience working with teacher teams;Bilingual in Spanish.Pay Range:$40 - $50 hourlyRFCUNY Benefits (link to https://www.rfcuny.org/RFWebsite )About the Research FoundationThe Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is a nonprofit educational corporation founded in 1963 to provide post-award fiscal and administrative support for CUNY’s research and sponsored programs.
