Job summary

Indian Creek Elementary School is seeking a dedicated Functional Academics Teacher to provide high-quality instruction for students with significant disabilities. This temporary role will begin in October and continue through Winter Break.

The candidate will plan individualized instruction aligned with IEP goals, differentiate for diverse learners, collaborate with special education staff, general education teachers, and families, and monitor progress to support student independence and success.

Qualifications

  • Valid Indiana Teaching License with appropriate special education licensure or eligibility.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of special education instructional practices, behavior supports, and individualized instruction.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver individualized instruction aligned with each student's IEP goals.
  • Teach functional academic skills, including literacy, mathematics, communication, and daily living skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
  • Implement positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, related service providers, general education teachers, and families to support student growth.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and maintain documentation related to IEP goals and instructional programming.
  • Foster an engaging, supportive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes independence and confidence.
  • Supervise and effectively direct instructional assistants within the classroom.
  • Participate in required meetings and collaborate with the school team to ensure students receive appropriate services.

Position Summary

Indian Creek Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Functional Academics Teacher to provide high-quality instruction and support for students with significant disabilities. This temporary position will begin in October and continue through Winter Break in December. The ideal candidate is committed to helping students develop functional academic, communication, social, and daily living skills while creating a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

  • Plan and deliver individualized instruction aligned with each student's IEP goals.
  • Teach functional academic skills, including literacy, mathematics, communication, and daily living skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
  • Implement positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies that promote student success.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, related service providers, general education teachers, and families to support student growth.

  • Familiarity with assistive technology, communication systems, and evidence-based instructional practices for students with significant disabilities.
