Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with patients to obtain maternal-fetal history and informed consent, assisting physicians in optimizing exam performance and interpretation, as evidenced by exam results. Explain procedures to patients and answer questions to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation. Assist physicians in performing CVS, Amniocentesis, and image optimization studies following departmental protocols.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sterile techniques and precautions during procedures.
- Recognize clinical or emergent issues in maternal-fetal patients that may interfere with exams, taking appropriate actions to resolve them, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction. Understand IV heparin locks and central line usage related to sonography, as observed by supervisors and peers.
Additional Requirements:
- Work Schedule: Full-time Day shift
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Degree from an accredited Sonography Training Program
- Licensure: None required
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start; Completion of the Inova Nuchal Translucency (NT) Program within 6 months if not certified; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics & Gynecology upon start
- Experience: At least two years of hospital or clinical experience in maternal-fetal sonography detecting fetal anomalies. MFM experience is preferred.
