Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is seeking an outstanding BC/BE fellowship-trained maternal-fetal medicine specialist to join the Wake Forest Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in an open-rank faculty position serving the communities of Wilkesboro and Hickory, NC. The successful candidate will join a division that includes eleven MFM faculty members, six MFM fellows, three genetic counselors, and a large cohort of outstanding sonographers, providing care to women with high-risk pregnancies at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem and surrounding communities.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is a 900-bed tertiary care facility in Winston-Salem, serving as the anchor for Wake Forest Baptist Health System. The system delivers approximately 5,000 babies annually and acts as a referral center for women across western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and southern Virginia.

The MFM Division has an ACGME-certified maternal-fetal medicine fellowship with a long history of training outstanding providers. The program is approved for two fellows per year, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in fellow education. The division also has a robust clinical, basic, and translational research program, including state-of-the-art laboratory space, laboratory technicians, clinical research coordinators, and regulatory experts.

The Wake Forest Department of Ob/Gyn comprises an Ob/Gyn generalist division and subspecialty divisions in maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic oncology, and gynecologic specialties such as minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and pediatric and adolescent gynecology. The department offers an excellent obstetrics and gynecology residency training program (six residents per year) and fellowships in MFM, gynecologic oncology, and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

The Wake Forest School of Medicine is the academic center for the Atrium Health Enterprise, which includes over 40 hospitals across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. As part of this enterprise, MFM faculty at Wake Forest Baptist have opportunities for large-scale system-based research, education, and clinical initiatives.

Winston-Salem, along with Greensboro and High Point, is located in North Carolina's Piedmont Triad, with a regional population of 1.7 million. It is ranked among the top 60 Best Places to Live by US News & World Report. The area offers a family-friendly, affordable cost of living with housing costs 31% below the national average, four seasons, strong schools, a vibrant arts community, sports teams, active community life, prestigious higher education institutions, and proximity to beaches and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

New graduates and experienced MFM practitioners are encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold an MD/DO degree and have completed an ACGME-accredited obstetrics and gynecology residency and an ACGME- or ABOG-accredited maternal-fetal medicine fellowship.
