About the position:

E Ink is seeking a creative, highly motivated, and hands-on scientist to join our team and conduct leading-edge materials research to support the adoption of E Ink displays in new applications. This role is central to advancing electrophoretic display technologies by deepening our understanding of all components of electrophoretic display systems and their interactions. As part of E Ink's Research team, you will support new display product development through creating core test methods and instruments, formulating and fabricating functional materials, conducting electro-optical experiments, and analyzing display performance.

As a key team member, you will undertake challenging exploratory projects that lead to product improvements and new products, within a culture of open review and critical discussion. E Ink maintains a lean team where each member has significant visibility and responsibility to meet company goals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ownership of and responsibility for initiating, directing, and executing materials and formulation research for performance optimization and new product development.
  2. Create and execute electro-optical experiments to characterize display performance.
  3. Collaborate with an agile, inspiring, and supportive team to rapidly advance project goals and pursue contingency plans.
  4. Perform statistical analysis and develop computational physics models to understand electro-optical phenomena and the behavior of display materials.
  5. Create and document intellectual property.
Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in materials science, chemical engineering, or a related field plus 5+ years of industrial experience; or M.S. degree plus 2-5 years; or Ph.D. degree plus 0-3 years of industrial experience.
  • Experience with soft materials such as polymers and colloids, with familiarity with their electrical properties being a plus.
  • Expertise in areas such as soft materials, formulation research, materials characterization techniques, and electrochemical charge transport.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of innovative solutions.
  • Self-directed, motivated, and hands-on personality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
