JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

Responsible for managing the material, transportation, and inventory needs of the plant. Accountable for achieving monthly goals, analyzing performance metrics, and administering the department efficiently and cost-effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish data base parameters for Material Requirement Planning (MRP) and related production software systems.
  • Maintain business practices, procedures, and documentation to control supplier releases, incoming shipments, receiving documents, inventory levels, storage, movement, and shipments to customers.
  • Manage schedule variations due to customer changes and recover premium freight costs as needed.
  • Oversee subordinate activities, ensuring accuracy and integrity of all materials-related record-keeping.
  • Set goals and action plans to reduce transportation, packaging, and inventory costs.
  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure quality and delivery standards are met.
  • Manage and update the Bill of Material Database, including implementing changes and loading new end items.
  • Minimize inventory levels and submit obsolescence claims when appropriate.
  • Maintain excellent customer and supplier relations, focusing on delivery performance.
  • Review employee performance for training and development opportunities.
  • Document and manage supplier delivery performance, including on-time delivery and shipment accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with all customs, BOS, and TS requirements.
  • Maintain safe operation and proper maintenance of all material handling equipment.
  • Ensure timely licensing and testing for equipment operators.
  • Maintain storage and racking safety standards.
  • Document safety incidents and corrective actions.
  • Supervise Material Floor Supervisors and material handlers.
  • Establish and maintain standard procedures for receiving, shipping, and returnable container tracking.
  • Set goals for reducing packaging and material handling costs and improving efficiency.
  • Monitor production downtime caused by material handling and replenishment processes.
  • Measure Truckload Utilization Management (TUMS) daily and report potential cost savings.
  • Participate in health, safety, and environmental investigations and audits.
  • Report accidents, illnesses, and emergencies, and communicate safety conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and support safety and environmental objectives.

Education and Experience:
