Job description

Job Title: Materials Manager

Leprino Foods is seeking a Materials Manager for our state-of-the-art cheese and whey manufacturing facility in Lubbock, TX, which is designed to accommodate over 600 employees.

Our $1 billion facility, initiated in summer 2022, will become operational in phases, with Phase 1 launching in 2024 and full operation expected by 2026.

Job Summary

The Manager I, Materials, provides guidance, direction, and oversight for shipping and receiving of finished goods, ingredients, and packaging materials. This includes milk scheduling, cream load-out schedules, and condensed whey load-out scheduling. The role involves monitoring and maintaining all warehouse areas, developing warehouse budgets, and managing team members. Responsibilities cover general warehouse management, production scheduling, and employee relations.

Job Duties
  1. Provides leadership in the Materials department by implementing programs in technical training, safety, quality, communication, performance recognition, and employee development to maximize productivity.
  2. Outlines and manages the work of Supervisors within the department.
  3. Leads performance management, employee development, and engagement initiatives.
  4. Builds strong working relationships, fosters collaborative teams, and maintains a positive work environment.
  5. Implements company and plant policies consistently and fairly.
  6. Maintains inventory levels within guidelines and manages product availability and rotation for quality purposes.
  7. Oversees ingredient and packaging materials, as well as non-stock items, to support production operations.
  8. Monitors daily inventory of milk and cream, and develops schedules for shipments of condensed whey and sweet cream.
  9. Coordinates and negotiates external material services for the plant.
  10. Schedules and coordinates production to meet customer demands.
  11. Manages finished product inventories, storage facilities, and shipment coordination.
  12. Manages the Materials department budget, ensuring financial objectives are met.
  13. Maintains inventory controls and efficiencies aligned with standards.
  14. Negotiates contracts for plant-specific services.
  15. Leads safety programs within the Materials department to ensure a safe working environment.
  16. Provides necessary training, equipment, and tools for employee safety.
  17. Sets safety standards and fosters accountability.
  18. Manages quality systems to meet quality goals.
  19. Oversees sanitation programs related to the Materials department to ensure food safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • College degree in Logistics, Warehouse Management, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in food manufacturing materials management, with additional education possibly substituting experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years in progressive leadership roles.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, with familiarity or ability to learn SAP or similar manufacturing systems.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Dairy/Cheese manufacturing experience.
  • Experience leading supervisors.
