Materials Handler Job Description
This Materials Handler will be responsible for:
- Receiving materials from vendors, verifying accuracy and count of items received, identifying and routing items for delivery to the final destination, and maintaining related documentation.
- Responding to requests from hospital staff for information regarding deliveries and shipments, and expediting orders as necessary.
- Maintaining inventory of medical gases according to required par levels and established schedules, and responding to routine and emergency requests for delivery and retrieval of gas cylinders.
- Delivering supplies and equipment to hospital locations via hospital vehicle, cart, and hand.
- Maintaining professional interactions with customers and materials management staff, handling hospital and personal packages, mail, and patient-related items in accordance with confidentiality policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintaining logs, records, and documentation related to duties such as receipt, delivery, distribution of materials, and maintenance of equipment, recording information manually or by computer as per procedures.
- Keeping the work area neat, orderly, and free of fire and safety hazards.
- Furthering knowledge and skills through attendance and participation at conferences, seminars, and in-service programs.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of related work experience.
- The ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
- The ability to frequently push and pull equipment weighing over 50 pounds.
- The ability to read and understand written instructions.
- Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in routine situations.
- The ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and relay messages to appropriate personnel.
- Courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors, and hospital employees, with sensitive situations referred to others as appropriate.
