Job summary

Schwarze Industries, part of the Alamo Group, seeks a Materials Handler for our Huntsville, AL facility to receive, store, and move components and materials for manufacturing. You will assemble orders, verify paperwork, operate RF barcode labeling, and use forklifts to move items.

Basic math and data entry are required, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds alone and 100 pounds with assistance. Overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1–6 months of material handling experience.
  • Forklift operation and safety competency required.
  • Basic math and data entry skills needed.
  • Must lift 50 lb alone, 100 lb with assistance.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
  • Must wear steel-toe PPE as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles orders and moves materials to shipping or production areas.
  • Receives, stores, and records material via RF systems.
  • Labels and identifies material, processes receipts and transfers.
  • Ships goods and packages materials for transport.
  • Operates forklift and uses related equipment.
  • Records transactions and updates inventory in systems.

Job description

Performs a combination of the following tasks: receive, ship and/or store component parts and materials for manufacturing operations. Uses production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered or distributed. May be assigned to one particular work center or various work centers.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Assembles orders, fills requisitions, work orders, etc., and moves and/or distributes materials to shipping dept., trucks, or production.
  • Performs material receiving functions. Identifies, records, labels and places materials into stock. Follows-up with appropriate paperwork including purchase orders and RMA's.
  • Marks materials with identifying information using RF Barcode labels, paint per or other marking devices.
  • Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed by processing issues, transfers, receipts or sales orders. Key transactions into RF handheld or desk top computer.
  • Ships whole goods/parts to destination and/or moves within production area. Packages and labels materials. May operate shipping company software systems.
  • Required to operate forklift.
  • Accurately records work order information and inventory transactions.
  • Uses computer to access information or verify data.
  • May load and transport materials using company vehicle. May pickup and deliver parts/supplies from local vendors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

High school diploma or GED required.

  • One to six months of previous material handling experience.
  • Ability to operate a forklift and hoist safely.
  • Basic math skills and computer data entry skills.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds alone and 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Able to work overtime to meet production deadlines. Able to work under pressure.
  • Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel toe shoes.
