Job summary

ORAU is seeking a talented individual to design and fabricate advanced materials that enhance the capabilities of dismounted soldiers. You will apply mechanical engineering principles, work independently, and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate innovative materials into weapon and protection systems.

About the Research

ARL is developing new multifunctional materials and structures to enhance the mobility, lethality, and survivability of dismounted soldiers. These materials will be designed to improve biomechanics and reduce mechanical injury. Research themes include passive energy‑dissipating materials, actuator materials, and novel composite structures.

Responsibilities
  • Design, fabricate, and test advanced materials and mechanisms.
  • Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop prototypes and validate performance.
  • Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary teams to integrate new materials into weapon and protection systems.
  • Document results and prepare technical reports and presentations.
Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical design and fabrication background.
  • Experience with machining, CAD, and mechanical testing.
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW or MATLAB programming is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
