Job summary

RTX’s Failure Analysis Lab in McKinney, TX seeks an experienced analyst to lead SEM-based failure investigations. You will perform metallurgical evaluations, tensile and fracture analyses, and prepare formal reports supporting programs.

Responsibilities include using EDS/WDS, optical microscopy, FIB, and universal testing systems, with collaboration from senior engineers. Strong communication and documentation skills are essential for this onsite role.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a BS degree in Materials Science or similar degree with 5 years of experience or advanced degree with appropriate experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in related field or advanced degree and 3 years of experience.
• Must be able to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the materials engineering field.
• Theoretical knowledge of lab analytical tools such as universal testing machines, thermal analysis tools, optical microscopes, SEM, EDS/WDS, etc.
• Ability to independently author cogent technical reports and deliver presentations to key stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Lead SEM operation and material analysis for failure investigations.
• Prepare formal analysis reports and support program decisions with data.
• Collaborate with Sr. engineers in multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain and audit laboratory tools and procedures.
• Present findings to stakeholders and write technical briefs.
