The New School seeks a part-time Materials Exchange Student Assistant to help manage space and materials on campus, assist with material exchange transactions, and support the volunteer program. You will help maintain a welcoming, well-organized space for students and collaborate with faculty and staff.

Ideal candidates bring design skills, strong communication, and a passion for arts and higher education. Hybrid on-campus work with some remote projects is expected.

Responsibilities

• Manage space and materials, open/close space, ensure safe storage and tidy environment.
• Assist with material exchange transactions and ledger point accounting.
• Coordinate and train volunteers for the Material Exchange program.
• Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to maintain an engaging space.
• Update announcements on the Material Exchange website and social media.
• Attend team meetings with the Material Exchange director.

Our progressive, interdisciplinary approach has earned us recognition as one of the most forward-thinking institutions in the world. **RESPONSIBILITIES:*** Management of space & material: Opening, closing space, ensuring that materials are stored safely, and are accessible to students, and keeping space tidy.* Executing material exchange transactions: Assisting students with dropoff / pickup of materials, including accounting of points on the material exchange ledgers.* Management of volunteer program: Scheduling and training of students volunteering time in the Material Exchange.* Collaboration: Work with students, faculty, and staff to create an engaging space where materials are housed for students.* Communications: Managing announcements on Material Exchange website, social media.* Team Meetings: Being available to meet with Material Exchange director and volunteers**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*** Interest and Knowledge: Strong interest in the built environment is encouraged.* Design Skills: Graphic design experience (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).* Communication and Teamwork: Strong communicator and team player.* Proactivity and Independence: Enthusiastic, proactive, and independent.* Time Management: Skilled at executing multiple projects simultaneously with efficient time management and exceptional attention to detail.* Feedback Responsiveness: Responsive to feedback.* Appreciation: Appreciation for arts, design, student life, and higher education.* Availability: Available during office hours, with occasional evening hours to support students* Knowledge of SCE: Familiarity with SCE’s disciplines is a plus but not required. **WORK MODE:**Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. This position will require 2 days of on campus work.
