Job summary

Northrop Grumman Corp. seeks student interns in Sunnyvale, CA to support materials and test engineering for production and R&D. Responsibilities include design reviews, data analysis, and report writing while gaining hands-on experience with metallography, welding, and failure analysis.

The role offers structured internship pay with rates for bachelor’s and master’s levels, and requires full-time summer commitment and eligibility for U.S. government security clearances.

Qualifications

• Be a student enrolled full-time and will be enrolled Fall 2027.
• Major in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related STEM degree.
• Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
• Able to obtain and maintain U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Materials and test engineering support to production and R&D efforts.
• Design engineering support: drawing reviews, design reviews, meeting support, data analysis, report writing.
• Mechanical testing of materials for production.
• Metallography of steels and non-metallics.
• Weld engineering support.
• Failure analysis investigations.
• Chemical and performance evaluations of organics materials.
• Evaluations of supplier materials.
