Job summary

Northrop Grumman seeks a Materials Engineer internship in Sunnyvale, CA, part of Mission Systems. You will support production and R&D with materials testing, design reviews, metallography, weld engineering, and failure analysis across naval systems offerings.

The role requires full-time summer 2027 enrollment in Materials Science/Engineering or related STEM fields, with U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance.

Qualifications

• Student enrolled full-time and will be enrolled in Fall 2027.
• Majors in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field.
• Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
• Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Materials and test engineering support to production and R&D efforts.
• Design engineering support: drawing reviews, design reviews, data analysis, and report writing.
• Mechanical testing of materials for production.
• Metallography of steels and non-metals.
• Weld engineering support.
• Failure analysis investigations.
• Chemical and performance evaluations of organic materials.
• Evaluations of supplier materials.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science / Materials Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field
