Job summary

Solid Power is seeking a Materials Engineering Intern to join our team of engineers and scientists advancing next-generation battery technology. The ideal candidate is pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or related field and eager to apply classroom

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Knowledge of materials characterization techniques.
  • Familiarity with polymer processing or wet-chemical methods preferred.
  • Understanding of safe handling practices for hazardous materials and lab equipment.
  • Experience with synthetic chemistry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery materials and synthesis methods preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support experimental plans focused on optimizing sulfide solid-state electrolytes.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Support polymer processing activities: slurry prep, mixing, casting, coating, drying, material handling for development-scale experiments.
  • Document process conditions, observations and results to support optimization and scale-up.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe work environment.
  • Safely handle hazardous materials and lab equipment per procedures.

Position Overview

Solid Power is seeking a Materials Engineering Intern to join our talented team of engineers and scientists dedicated to advancing next-generation all-solid-state battery technology. In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge research and development efforts focused on revolutionary energy storage solutions that are shaping the future of the battery industry.

As part of our dynamic, collaborative, and fast-paced environment, you will work alongside experienced technical professionals, gaining hands‑on experience in materials development, process optimization, and experimental research. The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field and is eager to apply their academic knowledge to real‑world challenges in advanced battery technology.

Job Duties
  • Work closely with Engineers to support and execute experimental plans focused on optimizing sulfide solid-state electrolytes.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and interpretation of experimental results.
  • Support polymer processing activities, including slurry preparation, mixing, casting, coating, drying, and material handling for development‑scale experiments.
  • Document process conditions, observations, and results to support process optimization and scale‑up efforts.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment through routine housekeeping activities.
  • Safely handle hazardous materials, chemicals, and laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of materials characterization techniques.
  • Familiarity with polymer processing or wet‑chemical materials processing methods, such as mixing, slurry preparation, casting, coating, or drying, is preferred.
  • Understanding of safe handling practices for hazardous materials and laboratory equipment.
  • Experience with synthetic chemistry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of lithium‑ion battery materials, synthesis methods, and materials optimization is preferred.
  • Ability to work on‑site at our Louisville, CO location.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods while conducting laboratory or production activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, face coverings, hair nets, safety shoes, coveralls, respirators, or PAPRs as needed.
Hourly Compensation

$25/hour

Schedule

10-20 hours per week during fall semester.
