Job summary

RTX in Rhode Island is seeking a Materials Engineer to join onsite operations in Portsmouth. You will evaluate materials, validate properties, and support product development through hands-on testing and data analysis.

Qualifications

What You Will Do
  • Evaluate materials based on conformance to specifications and performance requirements
  • Develop and/or validate appropriate materials, material properties, and processes for use on existing and new products
  • Provide resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes
  • Conduct hands on testing of materials using a variety of laboratory techniques
  • Follow standard written protocols, as well as developing and fabricating unique test plans and test setups
  • Review material documentation and assessment of specifications
  • Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage
  • Engage with suppliers
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as; Universal Testing Machines (Instron, MTS), Hardness Testers, Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Optical Microscopes, Polishers/Grinders, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience with Instrumental Analysis and laboratory techniques (Instron testing, hardness testing, cross sectioning, microscopes, scanning electron microscopy, etc.)
  • Experience with troubleshooting analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data
  • Experience with material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
  • Experience with writing concise technical reports summarizing analyses
  • Experience with leading and completing large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations

This position is classified as: Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. This position requires a security clearance. DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD.
