Job summary

RTX is seeking a materials specialist for an onsite role in Portsmouth, RI, requiring ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship. You will evaluate materials, develop and validate materials properties, and resolve technical issues across suppliers and processes.

The position involves hands-on testing with lab instruments (Instron, SEM, FTIR, DSC, DMA) and reviewing specifications, while collaborating with subject matter experts to advance aerospace materials for DoD programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
• Experience with laboratory equipment such as; Universal Testing Machines (Instron, MTS), Hardness Testers, Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Optical Microscopes, Polishers/Grinders, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA).
• The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with Instrumental Analysis and laboratory techniques (Instron testing, hardness testing, cross sectioning, microscopes, scanning electron microscopy, etc.)


• Experience with troubleshooting analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data


• Experience with material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods


• Experience with writing concise technical reports summarizing analyses


• Experience with leading and completing large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations

This position requires a security clearance. DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
