Job summary

HEICO Corporation in Tampa, FL, is hiring a Materials Engineer for its Seal Dynamics Business Unit. The role focuses on reviewing materials and certifications, developing test plans for outside labs, and ensuring compliance with aerospace specs (AMS, ASTM, MIL).

The candidate will perform in‑house testing (XRF, FTIR, hardness tests, passivation), develop material specifications, and collaborate with external labs while contributing to a dynamic, detail‑driven engineering team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials/Metallurgical engineering or related field; minimum 2 years in Materials Engineering.
  • Experience with aerospace, automotive or medical grade materials is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AMS, ASTM, AS, MIL, NAS specs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of metallic and non-metallic aerospace materials including polymers and composites.
  • Proficiency in materials characterization and hardness measurement techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong work ethic and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform an in‑depth documentation review of materials received and supplier certifications for first article and production parts.
  • Develop reverse engineering materials test plans for outside labs.
  • Support documentation required to send first article and production parts to outside Materials Analysis labs.
  • Interface with outside labs and review test reports for accuracy and complete test plans.
  • Perform in‑house testing with XRF, FTIR, Rockwell and Shore hardness, and passivation testing (training provided).
  • Develop and maintain materials and process specifications in compliance with aerospace standards (AMS, ASTM, MIL).
  • Other duties as assigned by Materials Engineering.

PRIME RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform an in-depth documentation review of materials received and process certifications from suppliers for first article and production parts.

Qualifications

EDUCATION / PRIOR EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials / Metallurgical engineering or a related field with at least two years of related Materials Engineering experience.
  • Experience in working with aerospace, automotive or medical grade materials is a plus.
  • Prior experience involving understanding of Aerospace Materials Specifications (AMS), ASTM, AS, MIL, NAS specifications is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of different types of metallic and non-metallic aerospace materials including polymers and composites, metals finishing processes, and materials specifications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in materials characterization and hardness measurement techniques
  • A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic, high attention to detail required to review documentation, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
