Responsibilities

• Oversee materials purchasing function and guide three direct reports.
• Source production materials from approved suppliers.
• Coordinate material availability with production schedules.
• Develop 4–6 week material consumption forecasts and adjust purchasing as needed.
• Monitor supplier lead times and track POs to completion.
• Review vendor acknowledgments for discrepancies.
• Identify and evaluate potential new suppliers.
• Compare vendor pricing and identify opportunities to reduce material costs.
• Coordinate purchasing needs with Production, Purchasing, Sales, Accounting, Customer Service, and Technology.
• Communicate updated supplier delivery schedules to Customer Service.
• Maintain accurate purchasing information and report purchases.
• Partner with Technology to improve reporting and forecasting.
• Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, plant efficiency, and material spending.
• Build positive supplier relationships and promote teamwork and continuous improvement.

About the Opportunity

Henis Group is recruiting a Materials Buyer for a well-established, family-owned paperboard and packaging manufacturer in Spartanburg. This is a management-level opportunity overseeing an established purchasing function with three employees reporting directly to the position.

You’ll coordinate material purchasing, supplier relationships, and short-term forecasting to ensure production has the materials needed to fulfill customer orders. The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable working with Excel, and able to balance material availability, supplier lead times, and costs while supporting a collaborative team.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee the materials purchasing function and provide direction and support to three direct reports.
• Work with approved suppliers to source production materials, including paper and chemicals.
• Coordinate material availability with production schedules and customer order requirements.
• Develop four- to six-week material consumption forecasts and adjust purchasing as needs change.
• Monitor supplier lead times and track purchase orders and deliveries through completion.
• Review vendor order acknowledgments to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Locate and evaluate potential new suppliers.
• Compare vendor pricing and identify opportunities to reduce material costs.
• Work with Production, Purchasing, Sales, Accounting, Customer Service, and Technology to coordinate purchasing needs and resolve issues.
• Communicate updated supplier delivery schedules to Customer Service.
• Maintain accurate purchasing information and report purchases to the Purchasing Department.
• Partner with the Technology Department to improve reporting and forecasting.
• Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, plant efficiency, and overall material spending.
• Build positive supplier relationships and promote teamwork and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, logistics, or a related field.
• Experience coordinating materials, monitoring inventory needs, or working with suppliers in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous team leadership or supervisory experience.

Relevant purchasing or supply chain experience is preferred but not required.
