Blue Origin is seeking talented M&P Engineers to join the Lunar Permanence team and build a strong M&P division focused on safely delivering lunar objectives. You will contribute from design through manufacturing, reviewing drawings and directing material selections to meet spacecraft requirements.

Role involves coordinating cross-functional work, developing tests, and guiding contamination control strategies for space vehicles, with emphasis on documentation and sign-off of engineering drawings.

Qualifications

  • BS in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of M&P engineering on production flight or space program.
  • In-depth NASA contamination requirements and standards knowledge.
  • Familiar with NASA-STD-6016 contamination control for space vehicles.
  • Experience reviewing materials and manufacturing process development and qualification.
  • Experience developing/executing test plans for analysis and qualification.
  • Knowledge of material data analysis standards (MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17).
  • Willingness to travel to Blue Origin and vendor sites.

  • Support design, analysis, materials selection, process development, and M&P qualification.
  • Support contamination control engineering and ensure requirements are implemented.
  • Lead coordination of characterization and qualification for contamination control designs.
  • Review production drawings for large assemblies and document according to requirements.
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings.
  • Coordinate internal/external M&P efforts, including specs, supplier qualification, FAI, testing, updates.
  • Develop internal engineering and quality processes to standardize material evaluation.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are looking talented M&P Engineers to join our growing Lunar Permanence team and build a strong M&P Engineering division dedicated to safely and successfully delivering the Lunar objectives at Blue Origin. You will share in the team’s impact from the design phase through manufacturing and processing to meet spacecraft requirements. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities
  • Provide broad support for aerospace grade materials and processes including: aluminum, steel, inconel, copper, bronze, and soft goods; forming, extrusion, plating, coating, welding, brazing, anodization, passivation, etc.
  • Support design, analysis, materials selection, process development, and M&P qualification for space vehicles
  • Support contamination control engineering: ensure the implementation and verification of contamination control requirements; provide design engineering support for contamination control for all vehicle systems
  • Lead and coordinate characterization and qualification efforts related to contamination control design solutions.
  • Review production drawing for large complex assemblies systematically, documenting the review to the established requirements
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies
  • Coordinate internal and external M&P efforts, including development of specifications, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates
  • Support the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification
  • Work with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other business units.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ Years of demonstrated M&P Engineering experience on a production flight or space program
  • In-depth knowledge of NASA contamination requirements, associated standards, characterization methods, and industry best practices
  • Strong familiarity with NASA-STD-6016, and upholding contamination control requirements within for space vehicles
  • Experience in materials and manufacturing process review and selection, development, and qualification for aerospace applications
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17)
  • Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database
  • Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites.
Desired
  • M.S. in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Experience running ambient, elevated temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing
  • Experience planning and executing material allowables or qualification program
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization techniques (e.g. SEM, EDS, metallography, ultrasound, micrography, and mechanical testing)
Base Pay Range For

CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85 WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
