Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced engineer to own corrosion prevention and control for aerospace vehicle systems. You will lead M&P efforts, coordinate testing and supplier qualification, and guide material evaluation from design through qualification on a production flight program.

You will review complex drawings, release parts, and work cross-functionally to standardize processes across the Lunar organization and other business units. NASA standards knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Materials Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated M&P Engineering experience on a production flight program.
  • In-depth knowledge of NASA corrosion prevention requirements and associated standards.
  • Knowledge of dissimilar metal compatibility and mitigation techniques.
  • Familiarity with NASA-STD-6012 and corrosion prevention for space vehicles.
  • Experience reviewing materials and processes for aerospace applications.
  • Experience developing test plans for analysis and qualification of components.

  • Own corrosion prevention plan, requirements, implementation and verification for vehicle systems.
  • Lead and coordinate corrosion characterization efforts and M&P activities.
  • Review production drawings and document reviews to requirements.
  • Lead signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies.
  • Coordinate internal and external M&P efforts including supplier qualification and testing.
  • Develop internal engineering and quality processes to standardize material evaluation and qualification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within Lunar organization and other units.

Job description

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide broad support for aerospace grade materials and processes including: aluminum, steel, inconel, copper, bronze, composite; forming, extrusion, plating, coating, friction welding, brazing, anodization, passivation, solid and sandwich laminates.
  • Own corrosion prevention and control plan, requirements, implementation, and verification; provide design engineering support for corrosion prevention for all vehicle systems
  • Lead and coordinate characterization and qualification efforts related to corrosion characterization
  • Review production drawing for large complex assemblies systematically, documenting the review to the established requirements
  • Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external M&P efforts, including development of specifications, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, mechanical testing, and customer-facing updates
  • Lead the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification
  • Work with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other business units.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ Years of demonstrated M&P Engineering experience on a production flight program
  • In-depth knowledge of NASA corrosion prevention requirements, associated standards, characterization methods, and industry best practices
  • In-depth knowledge of dissimilar metal compatibilities and mitigation techniques
  • Strong familiarity with NASA-STD-6012, and upholding corrosion prevention and control requirements for space vehicles
  • Experience in materials and manufacturing process review and selection, development, and qualification for aerospace applications
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, MAPTIS, CMH-17, etc.)
  • Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database
  • Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites.
Desired:
  • M.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering or related field
  • In-depth knowledge of metallic materials characterization techniques (e.g. SEM, EDS, metallography, and mechanical testing)
  • Demonstrated experience developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones
  • Experience running ambient, elevated temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing
  • Experience planning and executing material allowables or qualification program
  • Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis (e.g. MMPDS, CMH-17)

Base Pay Range for: CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85 WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20 Other site ranges may differ.
