Job summary

ST Engineering MRAS in the United States is seeking a Materials & Process (M&P) Manager to lead a diverse team of engineers supporting production programs and R&D demonstrator development. You will guide material and process engineering across the full product lifecycle, ensure compliance, drive improvements, and collaborate across quality, production, supply chain, and external partners.

A strong leadership record and experience with composites are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • 6+ years in materials/composite/manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with composite material systems and testing.
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Must be a U.S. Person for export-controlled position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Materials & Process Engineers supporting production programs and R&D/demonstrator development.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and coach new engineers.
  • Prioritize workload across production support, qualification/approval tasks, R&D projects, and demonstrator milestones.
  • Develop clear objectives and maintain accountability for team performance and on-time delivery.
  • Oversee material and process engineering support for active production, including composites, adhesives, coatings, and metallic processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal specs, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Provide direction on material approvals, deviations, MRB dispositions, and corrective actions.
  • Drive process improvements to increase robustness and reduce variability/costs.
  • Guide new material development projects, testing, and prototype builds.
  • Coordinate specification development for new materials or processes across teams.
  • Direct development of composite prototypes for demonstrators.
  • Support strategy for application of advanced materials and technologies.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and partners.
  • Provide status updates to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment between R&D and production needs, including qualification pathways and manufacturing readiness.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging materials and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess and mitigate risks for new materials and production changes.
  • Oversee testing plans for new composites and supplier qualification.
  • Maintain robust documentation and configuration control.

ST Engineering MRAS is looking for a Materials & Process (M&P) Manager to lead a diverse team of engineers who support both production composite/materials engineering and R&D / demonstrator development efforts. In this role, you will guide a team responsible for sustaining materials and process engineering across active production programs while also enabling the research, development, and early application of next‑generation composite materials, processes, and manufacturing technologies.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and external partners to ensure materials and processes are robust, compliant, cost‑effective, and ready for use across the full product lifecycle—from initial concept through production release.

What YOU will do

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Materials & Process Engineers supporting both production programs and R&D / demonstrator development.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and coach new engineers, fostering technical growth and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Prioritize workload across production support, qualification/approval tasks, R&D projects, and demonstrator milestones.
  • Develop clear objectives and maintain accountability for team performance, ensuring on-time delivery of engineering outputs and issue resolution.
  • Oversee material and process engineering support for active production, including composite materials, adhesives, coatings, and metallic processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Provide direction on material approvals, deviations, MRB dispositions, and corrective actions.
  • Drive process improvements to increase robustness, reduce variability, and support cost-out initiatives.

R&D, Technology Development & Demonstrators

  • Guide new material development projects, including testing, prototyping, and early application of advanced composite systems.
  • Oversee specification development and rollout for new materials or processes, coordinating across engineering, quality, production, and suppliers.
  • Direct development of composite prototype parts to support demonstrator builds and advanced material use cases.
  • Support strategy creation for application of advanced materials and manufacturing technologies.

Cross-functional Integration

  • Collaborate closely with Quality, Production, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and external research partners.
  • Provide technical direction and project status updates to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment between R&D efforts and production needs, including qualification pathways and manufacturing readiness.

Technical Ownership & Risk Management

  • Maintain awareness of emerging materials, process technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks associated with new materials, process changes, and production disruptions.
  • Oversee testing plans for new composite materials, process capability, and supplier qualification.
  • Ensure robust documentation, traceability, and configuration control of material and process specifications.

What YOU must bring to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in materials engineering, composite engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with composite material systems, testing (physical, chemical, mechanical), and manufacturing processes.
  • Prior leadership experience strongly preferred, including mentoring or managing engineering staff.
  • Strong analytical skill set and familiarity with specification development and material qualification.
  • Ability to integrate across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain functions.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to present technical content to stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • This position involves access to export-controlled technology which requires U.S. Person status or government authorization. A ‘U.S. Person,’ as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62, includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residence (green card holders), and individuals granted asylum or refugee status in the United States. To be considered for this position, you must either be a U.S. Person or fall within a legally recognized export control exception or authorization. Estimate salary range for this role: $120,000 to$155,000 per year.ST Engineering MRAS considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
