Job summary

Southwest Airlines in Phoenix is seeking a Material Specialist in Technical Operations. You will handle receiving, storing, and delivering parts and materials, operate stores equipment, and maintain records. This role requires physical ability and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Schedules may include early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays; overtime may be required. U.S. citizenship or authorization is required; the job is governed by a collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Provides friendly service to and maintains positive relationships with all internal and external Customers.
  • Executes the receiving, shipping, checking, classifying, issuing, inventorying and warehousing of supplies and the operation of stores equipment.
  • Delivers parts and materials to maintenance departments and ground equipment maintenance.
  • Assembles and installs stocking bins and shelves using power tools as needed; operates motor vehicles.
  • Picks up and delivers parts, equipment, and tools; duties vary by station size.

Pay of $20.16 to $20.16 per hour*. With the opportunity for future increase per applicable collective bargaining agreement wage scale. Opportunities for overtime and shift premiums.

  • This role is part of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which means pay, schedules, and other job details are set through an agreement with the labor union.
  • Work schedules are based on seniority and may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. There may be times when mandatory overtime is required to support flight operations, but there are also opportunities to trade shifts and find a schedule that works for you.

Responsibilities
  • Provides friendly service to and maintains positive relationships with all internal and external Customers.
  • Executes the receiving, shipping, checking, classifying, issuing, inventorying (on a nonexclusive basis), storing and warehousing of supplies, tools, materials and the operation of stores equipment and the preparation and maintenance of records and reports in connection therewith
  • The duties of a Material Specialist shall include the delivery of parts and materials to the maintenance department and ground equipment maintenance department
  • Assembly and/or erection of stocking bins, shelves, decks, employing the use of required power tools when necessary and the driving of motor vehicles
  • The pickup and delivery of parts, equipment, materials and tools where Material Specialists are assigned
  • Duties vary by size and organization of the station
  • Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to read documents, follow instructions, learn, and understand procedures, rules, and regulations including federal and local security regulations.
  • Must be able to perform well in a fast-paced environment, subject to adverse weather and aircraft noise.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and/or overtime, as well as on holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete training program and evaluation period
  • Must be aware of hazardous situations and be able to handle emergencies as needed.
  • Must work under tight time constraints to accomplish job tasks.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions within a limited space.
