Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Material Specialist for the Inventory Management team. This 100% onsite role is based in the greater Chicagoland area, supporting hospital supply chains and clinical departments.

You will count stock, process orders, handle returns, and ensure accurate receipts in the MMIS. The position requires strong data entry, organizational skills, and the ability to work nights in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with computers and data entry.
  • Good math and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer service and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Count and assess supply needs using logs and enter data into the MMIS.
  • Process and deliver carrier and vendor packages.
  • Prepare and stage returns.
  • Manage orders from MMIS and pneumatic tube system.
  • Organize supply carts and maintain storage areas.
  • Receive shipments and log receipts in Materials Management system.
  • Deliver packages and medical gas tanks with signatures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Material Specialist — Inventory Management

Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system, Company, as a Material Specialist in the Inventory Management department. This is a 100% onsite opportunity located in the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities
  • Uses a handheld computer and other authorized inventory logs to count and assess departmental supply needs, perform data entry, create orders, perform warehouse cycle counts and rotate stock.
  • Processes and delivers common carrier packages as well as prime vendor packages.
  • Prepares and stages returns.
  • Answers warehouse dock phones, enters departmental orders into the MMIS, retrieves/processes orders from the pneumatic tube system, and organizes and labels supply carts.
  • Maintains inventory management supply storage rooms and nurse servers in accordance with prescribed stock locations and supply quantities.
  • Receives, unpacks, verifies all shipments, and enters receipts into the Materials Management system.
  • Logs and accurately delivers packages and medical gas tanks to requesting departments (nursing units, nursing supply rooms, clinics, ancillary departments, including BSD) and obtains necessary signatures.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and organize work without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of personal computers; handheld computer proficiency preferred.
  • Good mathematical ability.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a stressful setting and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds of free‑weight and/or push 450 pounds on wheels for short distances.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles and receiving processes.
  • Knowledge of disposable hospital supplies.

Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations. Employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
