PARR is seeking a Material Return Specialist to efficiently process the return of re-sellable materials into yard inventory. The role supports multiple teams including Receiving, Sales, and Vendor partners, ensuring returns are completed within 5 business days from pickup to process completion.
The candidate will tally, inspect, and sort materials, create credit notes, and coordinate with vendors to minimize loss while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Pay: $22.14 - $26.62 The Material Return Specialist safely and efficiently performs the process of receiving re-sellable materials back into yard inventory. The Specialist is essential to help ensure that all material returns are received properly and in a timely order to meet our customer expectation of 5 business days from pickup through completion of process. The process includes tallying, inspection, and sorting of material, creating farm packs, vendor return PO’s, scheduling material returns to the vendor, and writing and invoicing credit notes in the system. This full-time position reports directly to the Assistant Manager or Location Supervisor, works closely with and is a backup for the Receiving Coordinator, Salespeople, Vendor partners and will interact daily with the Load Builders, Lumberyard Associates, Drivers, Dispatchers, and vendor delivery truck drivers.
Understands and follows company Material Returns policy Identifies areas of opportunities for better practices pertaining to handling of products along with packaging for severe weather conditions Demonstrates the ability to count and measure all returned products Ability to gain in-depth ERP knowledge, write Credit Notes and create Supplier Returns Basic understanding of return process, knows who to process documentation once material is verified and MRF is properly fill out Ensures Supplier Return PO’s are created at the time the Credit Note is process with proper restock costing Identifies dimensional lumber, panels, #1 vs #2, and other basic building products Ability to be selective and differentiate between cull and resalable material Operates a forklift according to company standard Responsible for Supplier Returns, creates SRPO, contacts vendor for pickup and tracks product until completion of pick-up Processes returns from start to finish Utilizes Supplier Return report to assist with improving vendor performance Inspects materials for damage prior to unloading customer vehicle (if applicable) Validates material matches the MRF and return PO Identifies specialty products (EWP, Composite decking, etc.) Works with receiver and Operational Inventory Controller (OIC) to investigate and resolve situations where inventory counts are incorrect Ensures proper labeling of all special orders, vendor returns, and inter-yard transfers
Wears proper high visibility proper uniform as needed Safety gear is always utilized (seatbelt, eye protection, ear etc.) Performs daily lift inspections Minimal product damage Keeps forklift clean Operates equipment safely Looks behind/honks horn when backing/rounding corners Demonstrates consistency in following all company safety protocols and encourages coworkers to do the same Uses proper lifting techniques to reduce injury Stacks and stores materials properly so they are stable, secure, and do not create a hazard Holds coworkers accountable for following best practices with safety Proactively brings safety issues to the attention of the Manager Participates on safety committee as needed
Collaborates with the manager, receiver, and bookkeeper Maintains a positive attitude and morale Assists in maintaining a clean work environment utilizing continuous housekeeping Works with receiver to stage vendor returns in organized manner for easy identification and pick-up by vendor drivers Works with receiver to maintain and replace unreadable labels for easy identification by yard employees Encourages all team members to maintain a positive attitude and morale Takes initiative or volunteers to solve issues Always available and willing to help Lumber Yard Associates, Load Builders, Receivers, and Counters Sales as needed
Writes legibly on all paperwork Communicates all damage or inconsistencies of material returns received with appropriate team members and customer/partners Responds to voicemails in a timely manner Responds to emails promptly with correct grammar and spelling Has appropriate relationship with all coworkers and departments Regularly brings areas of concerns to yard management’s attention Handles oneself with professionalism during stressful situations Communicates effectively both oral and written messaging to internal and external team members and our vendors Sends pictures of returnable products to vendor partners, OIC, and Sales team with return request Scans all necessary paperwork into ScanTrack including credit notes, material return forms, pictures, relevant communications, and supplier returns
High School Diploma or GED required Load building and/or customer service experience OSHA Certified Forklift license (training will be provided) Ability to speak, write, and read English required Ability to measure correct lineal footage totals on returns Ability to make decisions about materials ability to be returned Ability to load and unload materials from company fleet in a safe manner Ability to read grades of lumber and other materials Must be able to operate forklift, banding machine, tin snips, tape measure, power saws, hand truck, pallet jack, re-fueling stations, and any other equipment necessary for the job Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols preferred Two years of experience working with dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials preferred Shoes that are puncture resistant, slip resistant, and made of leather or composite material required Interpersonal Skills Ability to work cordially, professionally, diplomatically and with a high level of customer service in a dynamic environment Display sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business matters with internal and external customers of all types Ability and willingness to change processes, tools and/or procedures to improve the workplace and outcomes for our customers Solution driven to help identify prevention of damaged material Ability to communicate well verbally and written with all levels of management and employees Ability to function independently and as part of a team with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to excellence The ability to adapt to constantly changing environments Ability to appropriately manage stress and interact with others
The position primarily works outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 90 pounds and carry objects 50 feet Must be able to stoop, bend, and walk outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to utilize all appropriate safety equipment
